Human Resource Management

Human resource management (HRM) is the cornerstone of every successful company. At the centre of HRM are people and their leadership, their skills, their values and their motivation. In order to attract employees, companies have to deal with current economic, social, technological and legal developments, among other things. This gives rise to many exciting questions. The aim of this profile area is to qualify you for these diverse HRM issues so that you can become an HR expert with an interdisciplinary and strategic perspective.

People at the center

What is it about? The profile area not only covers the typical areas of HRM, such as personnel selection and personnel development, but also addresses technological, moral and legal aspects as well as strategic issues. Our diverse range of courses covers topics such as work & organisation in the digital transformation, occupational psychology, labour law, management of service companies, organisational psychology, personnel management and business & ethics. English-language events also prepare you for international contexts in everyday working life.

What is being researched? The profile area is based on diverse, interdisciplinary fields of research, which are analysed by the participating subject areas from different perspectives and using a wide variety of research methods. At the individual level, the people working in companies and their (working) behaviour are examined (how, why and under what conditions do people contribute to the success of companies and how can their behaviour be positively influenced?) At the company level, strategies, measures and legal options are analysed against the background of current technological, economic and social developments. At a macroeconomic level, ethical and moral aspects in particular, but also the organisation and change of work itself, are discussed.

Why should you choose this profile area? The strategic relevance of HRM continues to increase in companies and opens up extensive career opportunities for you. Demographic developments, increasing complexity, the dynamics of the economy, the sustainability transformation and digitalisation of the various areas of responsibility in companies and the associated professional and personal requirements make it necessary to identify, attract and retain suitable employees in the long term. Employees are a key strategic resource in almost all companies, which means that human resource management is of fundamental importance to a company's success, now more than ever.
