Teaching evaluation

The teaching evaluation is part of the Faculty of Business, Economics and Social Sciences’ quality management. The quality of teaching is a key factor for the success of studies and teaching, and we give it great importance. Therefore, all courses are evaluated each semester.

For this purpose, every lecturer receives a link at the beginning of the semester for the online teaching evaluation form to request the data for the evaluation. It is important to indicate the actual number of participants as accurately as possible and to complete the request forms by the deadline.

An information sheet on the evaluation procedure including an overview of dates can be found in the download area.

If you would like to evaluate additional events, you can request the forms at wiso_eval@uni-hohenheim.de.

If you have any questions or would like to see results from previous academic years, the evaluation team will be happy to help.

Consent of the teaching evaluation

In order to carry out an evaluation, the lecturers' consent to the teaching evaluation regulations is required. However, this only has to be submitted once to the Dean's Office of the Faculty of Business, Economics and Social Sciences. It is valid, as long as no declaration to the contrary is made, until the termination of employment.

The consent to the teaching evaluation regulations can be found as a form in the download area. This form also asks for consent to the publication of the results of the teaching evaluation, which, if approved, will be made publicly available on the faculty homepage.

Recommendations on how to handle teaching evaluations

The aim of the teaching evaluation is to provide individual and appropriate feedback from the students to the teachers. This can include praise, criticism and suggestions for improvement.

When filling out the evaluation forms and discussing the results, students and teachers should take care to maintain good manners and treat each other with respect.

Students should address positive and negative points in the evaluation. Negative points should be written as a "I" message if possible. Comments should be constructively critical and can take the form of requests for action and suggestions for improvement.

Teachers should see feedback as an opportunity to improve their courses. Discussing the results with the students is important. Possible misunderstandings can be clarified in conversation. Both good and bad feedback should be addressed. In the case of negative points, it is desirable to discuss the reasons with the students and to jointly develop suggestions for improvement.

Review of the results

After the evaluation, the teachers receive the results by e-mail. These are then to be discussed with the students in the course concerned. The teachers then give feedback to the Dean's Office. Teachers receive the link to the online feedback form in the e-mail with the evaluation results.

In the few cases of strong or persistent criticism, the teachers are approached by the Dean of Studies about the problems in order to find possible solutions together.

With their consent, the results are published on the faculty's homepage and on the intranet.

A compilation of all evaluation results is made available to both the Dean of Studies and the Study Commission.
