Study documents

Which modules do I have to take during my studies? Which modules are elective? Are there deadlines in the study program?

You can find these answers in the examination regulations, in the module catalog and in the study plan. Three important documents to give you the best overview of your studies.

The examination regulations contain all legal regulations regarding examinations. In the module catalog you will find all the modules that you must or can take in your studies. The study plan shows the modules in the individual semesters in chronological order. Read through everything at the beginning of your studies so that you are well informed about your options in your studies. This is your tool to plan your studies from the beginning.

Profile area

From the 4th semester onwards, you can specialise and develop your own personal profile. After you have learnt the basics of Sustainability & Change during the first three semesters, you have the opportunity from this point on to design your studies according to your own interests and professional goals. Your profile area comprises 42 credits. You can choose from modules in the summer and winter semesters. Please note that there are modules with participant restrictions. You can find more information on this page.

To the profile area

In your studies, you take the free elective area with a total of 12 credits. Here you can choose modules from your own and other profile areas, take language courses or have achievements abroad credited. You can find all important information about the free elective area via the link.

You have two different options for completing an internship in the free elective area: an internship of at least five weeks (6 ECTS) or one of at least 12 weeks (18 ECTS). The internship should be undivided and full-time. The Internship Office is your contact for handling the internship. There you will also find helpful tips for finding an internship. More about the internship

As part of your studies in communication science, you can spend some time abroad. The University of Hohenheim maintains partnerships with other universities both within Europe with the ERASMUS program and overseas. You have the opportunity to have examination results obtained abroad recognized for the modules in your degree program.

To ensure that you get a supervisor for your thesis, there is an award procedure. Two award procedures are offered per year: The first award procedure takes place in February for registration of the thesis in the summer semester, the second award procedure takes place in July for registration of the thesis in the winter semester. The award procedure is offered via KVS.
