Research activities

The Faculty of Business, Economics and Social Sciences concentrates its research in economics on the traditional areas of economics and business administration and in the social sciences on the key area of communication studies.

Because of its interdisciplinary profile, the Faculty has a broad spectrum of research activities. These range from methodological and theoretical foundational research to research that is focused on practical application. A particular focus lies on the areas of trade and service management, health care management, public finance, and use of media.

Strategic Network Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Finance (INEF)

This holistic approach is reflected in the INEF (Strategic Network Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Finance), for example. In the network, the Hohenheim business and economic scientists unite their expertise with five renowned partner universities in Belgium, France, Italy, the USA, and China. Innovation, entrepreneurship, and finance are highly relevant topics. In the past years, these topics have been brought to the forefront at the University of Hohenheim. The Faculty of Business, Economics and Social Sciences itself followed two different goals with the network: The focus is on the strategy of further sharpening the Faculty’s own research profile and driving forward the internationalization of business and economic sciences. This also applies to the education of doctoral candidates.

Hohenheim Datalab (DALAHO)

With the Hohenheim Datalab (DALAHO), the Faculty offers its researchers and young scientists access to an extensive collection of international databases (including Bloomberg, Data-Stream, and Sirca). A high-performance server makes it possible to quickly analyze datasets in STATA 13 MP und R.

Discussion Papers in Business, Economics and Social Sciences

Besides this, the Faculty has its own publication series with the Hohenheim Discussion Papers in Business, Economics and Social Sciences. The Faculty’s scientists can therefore quickly make their research findings available to a wide audience.
