International Business and Economics

Every individual company and every economy as a whole is woven into a worldwide network of economic relationships. Globalization itself offers opportunities, but also harbors risks. In addition, most social challenges have an international dimension (financial crisis, coronavirus pandemic, disrupted supply chains, climate change, etc.). Issues with an international dimension are the focus of this profile area. You will acquire the skills and knowledge to understand and classify international economic contexts. The profile area thus provides the basis for sound business decisions in a globalized world. In order to promote language skills, some modules are offered in English. The completion of a business language module is compulsory.

Opportunities and risks of globalization

What is it about? In the International Business and Economics (IBE) profile area, you will acquire business management skills and knowledge of economics. You will gain a broad and in-depth knowledge of the functioning of international goods, financial and labor markets and cross-border trade in technology. This knowledge serves as a basis for business decisions in a globalized world. You will also deepen your language skills.

What is being researched? The lecturers involved in the IBE profile area conduct research on topics such as international trade, such as the effects of trade policy measures on company decisions, trade volumes and real income, on topics relating to international macroeconomics such as monetary policy, the design of currency areas and fiscal stimulus packages, as well as on the systemic foundations for entrepreneurial transformation processes with a focus on innovation and sustainability.

Why should you choose this profile area? Like the basic area of the degree program, the IBE profile area pursues an integrative approach by combining business and economic perspectives. With a selection of English-language modules and a compulsory language module, the profile area has an international focus. It prepares you ideally for careers in international companies and organizations or for completing an English-language Master's program in Germany or abroad.
