The German healthcare system will undergo fundamental change in the future. The driving factors include advances in medical technology, demographic change and increasing digitalization. This (digital) transformation poses new challenges for all players in the healthcare sector. Ensuring high-quality, effective and efficient healthcare is of the highest economic and socio-political relevance. The Healthcare Management profile area is therefore consistently geared towards the needs of the healthcare sector and the professional groups working in it. You will acquire a comprehensive set of scientific tools in the fields of business administration, insurance, medical management, law and human resources for dealing with changes and challenges in the growing healthcare market.

Course content

Future Health: Patient-oriented transformation in the healthcare sector

What is it about? In healthcare management, you will deal with special management and controlling instruments for hospitals, medical care centers and medical networks. You will also work out the special features of healthcare markets and evaluate the value of healthcare services. You will also analyze information and incentive problems in healthcare organizations and investigate the functioning of the German health insurance system (SHI and private health insurance). In this context, you will examine the opportunities and risks arising from the use of E-Health, machine learning and artificial intelligence. You will also learn the basics of risk theory and insurance technology and have the opportunity to deepen your knowledge in practical seminars or supplementary subjects taught by lecturers from the field (e.g. Medicine for Economists).

What is being researched? The main objective and core competence of the chair lies in the analysis of the healthcare market from a business perspective and the timely communication of the research findings in teaching. This includes the development of scientifically sound, innovative care concepts to meet the challenges of the growing healthcare market.
