Acceptance as a Doctoral Candidate
The request for acceptance as a doctoral candidate is done via the online database DOCATA. After the registration in DOCATA you are able to fill out your application completely online and to print it afterwards. The signed request for acceptance as a doctoral candidate must be submitted to the Graduate Academy Hohenheim together with the required documents. You can see which documents are required in the current doctoral degree regulations or the request for acceptance.
If you completed your studies abroad, then after you have submitted your request the Office of International Affairs will check whether your degrees entitle you to start doctoral work. Please submit the certificates for all university degrees (e.g. Bachelor’s, Master’s Diplom) and the respective transcripts of records. As proof, you must submit notarized copies of the original certificates and transcripts of records (overview of modules, subjects, and grades) in the original language. Certificates and transcripts that are not in German or English must be translated by a certified translator into German or English. The person submitting the request keeps the originals of the translations; it is sufficient to include notarized copies with the request.
The decision on your acceptance as a doctoral candidate is made by the doctoral committee. After your request has been accepted, you will receive your letter of acceptance. After receiving your acceptance as a doctoral candidate, you can register at the Student Information Center (SIZ) in order to be able to use the facilities of the University and Student Services. Further information regarding the additionally needed documents for the registration you will receive by the SIZ.
