Structure and research training groups

Within the doctoral study program "Business Administration and Economics" there are two thematically structured research training groups:

  • Economics
  • Management/Finance

During the doctoral studiy program five modules have to be successfully completed.

The scope of a module is usually 3 contact hours per week and corresponds to a workload of 6 ECTS credits. The modules conclude with a module examination. The standard period of study is three years and covers the time after admission to the doctoral study program. The doctoral candidate has the right to examination for the successful completion of the 5 modules. The further achievements consisting of the writing of the dissertation and the oral doctoral performance do not have to be completed within this period.

The courses to be taken are determined by the doctoral committee within the framework of admission to the doctoral study  program. This is done in consultation with the doctoral supervisor.

A maximum of one module may be replaced by a corresponding Master's module. A module already completed in a previous degree program may not be chosen.

Achievements acquired during "Summer Schools" may be credited.

In addition, it is expected that at least one national or international conference is attended during the doctorate, at which results from the doctorate are presented in the form of a poster or lecture.

In the research training group "Management/Finance" the course "Advanced Contract Theory" is offered in the module "Methods I" and the course "Identification Strategies in Finance" in the module "Methods II".
