Good Rankings for Hohenheimer Business and Economics Programmes  [11.06.14]

The new CHE Ranking 2014 for Bachelor's programmes in Germany has been published in the current ZEIT-Studienführer magazine. The Hohenheimer Business and Economic sciences achieved an outstanding ranking in nearly all criteria in the middle bracket.

Particularly noteworthy is that our students generally completed their studies within the designated study timeframe (81.7% of the Bachelor's and 92.6% of the Master's). Conditions of study in Business and Economics are overall well rated by the surveyed students. There were good reviews for e-learning, the curriculum and the students support service among others.

“We are very happy with the results, but the ranking also indicates that there is definitely potential for improvement in some categories", said Prof. Dr. Dirk Hachmeister, who was re-elected as dean of the Faculty of Business, Economics and Social Sciences in April 2014. The faculty is closely working with the President’s office regarding the assessment of classroom space on the campus (2.7 marks) and the IT infrastructure (2.2 marks). The launched Otto Rettenmaier Audimax building will help alleviate the strained space situation on campus, says the Dean. The laying of the foundation stone for the new auditorium will take place on the 2nd July 2014.

Prof. Dr. Hachmeister pointed out that the evaluation for study abroad programmes was an incentive for the faculty to further intensify its efforts. "We have worked tirelessly over the last few years in the area of structured internationalization, but apparently not all measures have been adopted everywhere." Internationalization is and remains a very important topic for the faculty. The faculty is working on it to ensure all development potentials are exhausted.  “However, I see in the evaluation no shortcomings on the part of the consultation and support regarding foreign studies, but rather with other conditions. Structural changes need time in order to have an effect”,  the Dean elaborates.

The Dean emphasizes that for the semantic content of the survey, one has to take into consideration the different cohorts of undergraduate students who were interviewed. „From the view of the faculty, the study conditions have continuously improved in the last years. That is, unfortunately, not reflected by the ranking”.  A greater participation of students in the CHE Survey would be desirable, according to Prof. Dr. Hachmeister. “Only then can we really say where we stand”.
