Human Resource Management

Human Resource Management (HRM) lays the foundation for every successful company. At the heart of HRM are people and their leadership, skills, values, and motivation. To attract employees, companies must, among other things, keep abreast of current economic, social, technological, and legal developments. This gives rise to many fascinating questions. The goal of this specialization is to equip you with the skills to address these diverse issues in HRM, enabling you to become an HR expert with an interdisciplinary and strategic perspective.

People at the Center

What’s it all about? This program not only covers the typical areas of HRM, such as recruitment and talent development, but also addresses technological, ethical, and legal aspects, as well as strategic issues. Our diverse range of courses covers topics such as work and organization in the digital transformation, industrial psychology, labor law, management of service companies, organizational psychology, and business and ethics. English-language courses also prepare you for international contexts in your professional life.

What is being researched? This area of specialization is grounded in diverse, interdisciplinary fields of research, which the participating disciplines explore from various perspectives and using a wide range of research methods. At the individual level, the focus is on people working in companies and their (work-related) behavior (How, why, and under what conditions do people contribute to a company’s success, and how can their behavior be positively influenced?). At the organizational level, strategies, measures, and legal options are analyzed against the backdrop of current technological, economic, and societal developments. At the macroeconomic level, the focus is particularly on ethical and moral aspects, as well as the nature and transformation of work itself.

Why should you choose this specialization? The strategic relevance of HRM continues to grow within companies and opens up extensive career opportunities for you. Demographic trends, increasing complexity, the dynamics of the economy, the sustainability transformation, and the digitalization of various functional areas within companies - as well as the associated professional and personal requirements - make it necessary to identify, attract, and retain suitable employees over the long term. Employees are a key strategic resource in almost all companies, making human resource management of fundamental importance to a company’s success - now more than ever.
