Important Basics for Your Studies

Academic Documents

Which modules do I need to take during my studies? Which modules are required electives? Are there deadlines during my studies?

You’ll find the answers to these questions in the examination regulations and the course catalog - two important documents that will help you stay on top of your studies.

The examination regulations contain all legal provisions regarding exams. In the module catalog, you’ll find all the modules you must or may take during your studies. Be sure to read through everything at the start of your studies so you’re fully informed about your options. This is your tool for planning your studies from the very beginning.

Organisation of Studies

When are my classes? When are the exams?

Here are your guides:

  • Create your own personal class schedule.

  • In the course catalog, you’ll find all the courses for the current semester.
  • In HohCampus, you can manage your studies, such as re-registering for your study program and signing up for exams.
  • In ILIAS, you can access course content and materials.

Preliminary and Midterm Exam

What is the Preliminary and Midterm Exam?

Throughout your studies, you will take the preliminary exam and the midterm exam as part of your coursework.

By the end of the third semester, you must earn 54 ECTS credits from the first three semesters of the required curriculum (HPZ and NPZ) to pass the preliminary exam.

  • You must earn 6 ECTS credits each from the modules “Business Mathematics” and “Introduction to Economics.” We strongly recommend that you complete these two modules as scheduled in the first semester.
  • You must earn 24 ECTS credits through four modules, either from the “Business Administration”track, the “Economics” track, or a combination of both.
  • Three modules (18 ECTS) may be freely chosen from the course offerings in the first through third semesters.

You have passed the midterm exam if you have earned 90 ECTS credits from the required courses by the end of the fifth semester (HPZ and FPZ).
