Course Content

Combine legal and economic knowledge

What is this about? In this specialization, you will gain in-depth knowledge of the functions of management accounting and the three subfields of accounting: external and internal accounting, as well as business taxation. The program highlights the purposes and content of corporate accounting regulations, as well as details on international financial reporting and accounting policies. In addition, this specialization provides a foundation in corporate law—which serves as the basis for accounting and corporate taxation—and offers insight into the fiscal theory of taxation. The focus also includes the principles of corporate taxation, tax implications, and tax planning, as well as legal knowledge in tax law and corporate succession. In this respect, this specialization represents an interdisciplinary, legal-economic specialization.

What is being researched? Research in the field of Accounting, Controlling & Taxation primarily covers (consolidated) financial reporting in accordance with the German Commercial Code (HGB) and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), as well as business valuation. The controlling module provides you with an overview of the functions of controlling and the purposes for which controlling instruments are used. The focus also includes empirical research on issues related to auditing and financial reporting. Tax law is examined from both economic and legal perspectives. In this context, research concentrates on both the national and international spheres of taxation. Legal-theoretical considerations play a prominent role here, as do questions regarding the policy implications of taxation. In the field of public finance, research focuses on taxation, particularly empirical research on tax enforcement.

Why should you choose this specialization? This specialization prepares you for a professional environment with excellent and diverse career prospects. You will acquire analytical skills as well as interdisciplinary abilities in the field of legal and economic analysis. Thanks to the diverse range of modules and possible combinations, this specialization provides excellent preparation for the increasingly complex requirements involved in preparing and auditing financial statements, as well as providing tax advice to businesses and individuals. In addition, you will be equipped to build a strong foundation for an in-depth master’s program and for the professional exams you aim to take (tax consultant, certified public accountant).
