Assurance of Learning

Assurance of Learning (AoL) is a central component of AACSB accreditation and complements the quality management efforts of the Faculty of Business, Economics and Social Sciences in the area of academic programs and teaching. A systematic and ongoing process ensures that students meet the defined competency and learning expectations of their degree program and that the academic offerings are continuously improved.

Quality Assurance through Assurance of Learning

The AoL process involves defining competency goals, measuring and evaluating the achievement of these goals, and developing appropriate measures for the continuous improvement of student performance. The AoL Committee of the Faculty of Business, Economics and Social Sciences is responsible for implementation. Its members include the Dean of Studies, the head of the Studies and Teaching in the faculty administration, the AoL manager and the program directors.

The Relevance of the AoL Process for Students

The AoL process helps to continuously improve academic programs and teaching and to ensure the quality of degree programs. Students’ experiences and academic performance also play an important role in this process:

  • The results of the graduate survey, as well as anonymized samples of student performance, help assess the extent to which the defined competency goals are being met.
  • Through their feedback and academic performance, students actively contribute to the further development of degree programs and the improvement of the curriculum.

Relevance of the AoL Process for the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences

  • Focus on Learning Outcomes: AoL provides up-to-date and meaningful insights into our students’ learning outcomes and skill development.
  • Further developing degree programs: The results highlight strengths and areas for improvement and support the targeted further development of our curricula.
  • Ensuring quality: AoL is an important component of the continuous improvement process for academic programs and teaching at the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences.

Learning Objectives of the AoL

Learning outcomes clarify what students will be able to do and know by the end of their studies. They describe the abilities, skills, and knowledge that students are expected to acquire in each degree program. In this way, they provide students with clear guidance for their academic journey and show which competencies they will develop for their future careers.

At the same time, the competency goals offer prospective students an important decision-making tool: They provide transparent insight into the content and objectives of a degree program and help students find the right program that aligns with their interests and career prospects.

The competency goals are precisely formulated and clearly presented for each degree program.
