Within the festive week’s program CHIKOH is proud to present the lecture “ChemChina as a State-owned Enterprise: Origin, Challenges and Approach to acquisitions outside China" by Mr. John-James Farquharson.
Recently, Chinese state-owned Enterprises (SOEs) are on a shopping spree abroad, buying well-known large companies, like the Swiss Syngenta and many cutting-edge technology companies of smaller size. This raises many questions such as:
- What motivates Chinese SOE’s to make acquisitions in Europe?
- What difficulties and limitations do they face outside China?
- The dilemma of SOE’s: Provide employment AND reducing excess headcount
- What challenges do Western Executives face working in an SOE- environment?
These and more questions will be discussed by Mr. Farquharson, former Chief HR Officer for ChemChina-Bluestar and author of the book “In the Belly of the Dragon” (www.inthebellyofthedragon.com). He has spent about thirty years in the Chemical industry, in Finance, Sales, running a plant and HR, living and working in many different countries. The lecture will take place on:
